A massage of the head and face, including the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) can be an effective treatment for a variety of ailments, including bruxism, jaw clenching and TMJ dysfunction.  Many people don’t realize how much tension they carry in the masseter muscle, the muscle primarily responsible for chewing, which covers the sides of the jaw just behind the cheeks.  Jaw injury and fatigue, arthritis, grinding and clenching, and muscular imbalances from improper posture can all affect this area causing pain, tension and headaches.

Massage therapy to the head and TMJ can work the muscles of the jaw, increasing circulation and reducing inflammation.  Often a noticeable reduction in pain happens immediately after treatment.
