To relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good. But it's also tailored specifically to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies. We offer a special hollowed-out pillow to accommodate your belly so you can lie face-down if this is appropriate for your current stage of pregnancy. If you find this position stresses your lower back, you can lie on your side with pillows for support. Typically, we suggest side-lying for later stages of pregnancy.
Carrying a baby inside you changes your centre of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments so that your pelvic joints are less stable and changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward. Add to that the extra weight you're carrying and you may find you've got an aching lower back.
Our massage therapists know where a pregnant woman's sore spots are and will be able to provide some relief. They also know which areas and techniques to avoid, but it is also important to communicate with your therapist during your treatment and let them know if anything during the massage, including your positioning, is causing you any discomfort.
- Pre/Postnatal BodyTalk with Sharon Koenning
BodyTalk can be used during pregnancy and childbirth, but can also be used on newborns and very young children as well. Receiving prenatal BodyTalk sessions allows the mother and baby to be in full and proper communication with each other, which will allow the baby to develop healthily and can also address any particular issues that may arise during the pregnancy. BodyTalk at the actual birthing can help the mother remain present and calm, and can assist the labour in being more efficient. Postnatal BodyTalk can help mom and baby recover from the stress of the birth quickly and easily.
