to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good. But it's also tailored specifically to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies. We offer a special hollowed out pillow  to accommodate your belly so you can lie facedown if this is appropriate for the stage of pregnancy you are at.   If you find this position stresses your lower back you can lie on your side with pillows for support.  Typically, we suggest side lying for later pregnancy.   Carrying a baby inside you changes your center of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, so that your pelvic joints are less stable, and changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward. Add to that the extra weight you're carrying and you may find you've got an aching lower back.  Our massage therapists knows where a pregnant woman's sore spots are likely to be and may be able to provide some relief. (She'll also know which areas and techniques to avoid.) Still, it's important to communicate with her and tell her where you need attention. Let her know right away if anything during the massage – including your positioning – is causing you any discomfort.

Regular BodyTalk balancing sessions throughout your pregnancy can enhance your health as well as your baby's health, potentially preventing complications and positively influencing the development of your baby. Many mothers-to-be find themselves facing anxiety, fatigue, back pain, heartburn, nausea, and other symptoms as a result of the many new demands being placed on their bodies. BodyTalk has been found to effectively relieve many of these symptoms and more.  BodyTalk is 100% safe and non-invasive. We offer individual BodyTalk appointment bookings to treat you as well as special Pre/post natal BodyTalk bookings that will include treatment for both mom & baby. Joanne has extra experience with fetal positioning and can use BodyTalk to ensure baby is in optimal position for delivery as well as release any fear or stress regarding birth that both mom and baby may be facing.   See here for more information on BodyTalk for conception, pregnancy, baby and labour

Prenatal Acupuncture With Paige Wyatt

Acupuncture is an ideal form of treatment as it offers women drug-free relief for a multitude of problems that can arise during pregnancy and childbirth. During the first trimester, acupuncture or acupressure may reduce morning sickness, fatigue, migraines and bleeding.  During the second trimester, acupuncture can help alleviate heartburn, hemorrhoids and stress. It can also alleviate varicose veins, vulval varicosities, itching of the skin, sinusitis, hypertension (PIH), and edema. Third-trimester benefits can include much-needed relief from sciatica, backache, pubic and joint pain. Benefits are sometimes immediate. Acupuncture can also help induce labour and turn the baby in a non-invasive, natural way.

It can help promote circulation to the uterus, support healthy egg maturation, and ensure healthy uterine lining, thereby enhancing your chances to sustain a healthy pregnancy. Following conception, acupuncture can prevent miscarriage by promoting overall health and proper circulation throughout the body. It can also assist the body in managing stress better and reduces anxiety.

Regular treatment with acupuncture designed to reduce anxiety can offer women important and reassuring support during the first few months of pregnancy. Clinical trials have shown that regular monitoring and reassurance reduces miscarriage rates significantly.
Out of 201 pregnant women with no abnormality identified, 160 women attending clinic monitored weekly resulted in 74% ...having a successful pregnancy, versus 49%.

A series of four treatments weekly beginning at 36 or 37 weeks is ideal in preparing for labour. Points are used to ripen the cervix, to help position the baby in the best position, to initiate contractions and open the pelvis, and most importantly to relax the woman so her body can work in natural flow.

RESEARCH:   Data was gathered on 169 women by 14 midwives in Wellington, New Zealand. Those receiving pre-birth acupuncture had the following results:
- An overall 35% reduction in the number of inductions (for women having their first baby this was a 43% reduction)
- 31% reduction in the epidural rate
- 32% reduction in emergency caesarean delivery
- A 9 % increase in normal vaginal births

This workshop is designed to promote natural labour, reduce your pain, and gain a sense of control during your labour. It also encourages close partner involvement. The workshop runs 90 minutes and offers a unique experience for couples preparing for labor. Andrea will guide each couple in discovering the use and location of several different pressure points that assist with reducing pain, opening the pelvis, turning baby and more!  3 couples are taught at a time so that Andrea can give each couple the time necessary in discovering the exact location and function of each point. This is a workshop you won't want to miss out on, as it is the only one like it in Saskatoon!

Research shows that acupuncture can play a significant role in both conceiving and sustaining pregnancy.  Please note that  Andrea prefers to work with clients naturally first before trying ART (Artificial Reproductive Therapy). This enables the client to go in with a stronger foundation (increased quality of eggs, built up yin, yang and/or blood, etc.)  Together we focus on QUALITY!

1. Acupuncture has been proven to reduce stress; this is very important when trying to conceive as stress reduces blood flow to the reproductive organs and negatively affects hormonal balance. A 2001 study from the University of California, San Diego found that women with high stress were 93% less likely to become pregnant.

2. Acupuncture has been reported to promote the circulation of blood in the pelvic cavity and improve ovarian function. It also promotes follicle production, enhancing uterine blood flow and improving uterine lining thickness.

3. Acupuncture lessens the side effects from hormonal treatments and increases success rates of IUI treatments.
